CCB Donates One Million Yuan to the

China Red Cross Foundation “Blue Ribbon Fund”

To Provide Medical Aid to Children from Needy Families

Suffering from Severe Diseases

A donation and plaque presentation ceremony of the China Red Cross Foundation (CRCF) “Blue Ribbon Fund" was held at the Bafangyuan of Diaoyutai State Guest House on September 12th.  Attending the ceremony were China Red Cross executive vice president Jiang Yiman, CRCF secretary-general Wang Yupeng, China Navy Logistics Department deputy director Ren Zhongji, Naval General Hospital director Duan Yunyou and CCB controller of wholesale banking Gu Jingpu.  Also present was famous vocalist Song Zuying, who was attending the ceremony in the capacity of a “Caring Angel” for the Blue Ribbon Fund.

The establishment of the Blue Ribbon Fund has received much support from CCB, which has not only offered supports and assistance in different areas at its inception, but has donated one million yuan to help its starting up.  In future, CCB will continue to offer different forms of support for the treatment of severely diseased children.

According to CRCF secretary-general Wang, the Blue Ribbon Fund was an important component of the “Red Cross Angel Programme”.  It was jointly initiated by CRCF and Naval General Hospital as a special charity fund for providing treatment assistance to children from needy families who are suffering from severe diseases.  For a number of reasons, for diseases such as leukaemia and cerebral palsy which would seriously affect the health or even the life of children, the rate of incidence has been increasing every year.  Statistics shows that, for leukaemia alone, there are now more than four million patients in China and the number of patients is increasing by 40,000 a year.  What is more, 50% of the patients are children.  To provide treatment to these children, the sum of medical fees needed is not trivial.  The starting up of the Blue Ribbon Fund brings new hopes to poor children suffering from severe diseases and to their families.

To provide guaranteed curative results and ensure full utilisation of donated funds, CRCF has appointed Naval General Hospital as the only medical institution for offering treatments of these diseases.  Relying on the advanced medical technology and the treatment experience of Naval General Hospital, the diseased children would have the best guaranty in treatment and recovery.

Over the years, CCB has been relentless in undertaking its corporate social responsibility and has continuously exerted great efforts in supporting the development of health care, educational, cultural and hygiene programmes in the country, as well as in relieving the poor and the distressed.  It has obtained much commendation and recognition from all sectors of society for the contribution it has made to various charity causes.  For example, it has been awarded the honour of providing “Outstanding Contributions for the Care of Children” and “Special Contributions to the Second Annual Poverty Fighting Campaign” respectively from China Children & Teenagers’ Fund and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.  Moreover, it is the only bank which was named one of the “Most Responsible Corporate Citizen in China 2006” by the Red Cross Society of China.  As a sponsoring bank and a partner of the Special Olympics World Summer Games held in Shanghai, CCB is launching a series of charity programmes in more than 3,000 of its outlets in 11 hosting cities including Beijing and Shanghai to help raise donations for the function.

In the ceremony, CCB handed over a one million yuan donation cheque to CRCF while CRCF presented CCB with a donation certificate.  In addition, CRCF presented Naval General Hospital with a plaque marking the latter as the appointed medical institute for the Blue Ribbon Fund.

At the occasion, a spokesman agreement was signed between CRCF secretary-general Wang and vocalist Song and China Red Cross executive vice president Jiang presented Song with a “Caring Angel” souvenir plate and an employment contract.  Jiang, Wang, Ren, Gu and Song also presented assistance funds to the first batch of children suffering from severe diseases and receiving treatment at Naval General Hospital who are identified for assistance.
