In the afternoon of April 3rd, a signing ceremony for a “Strategic Partnership Agreement” was held in Beijing between Tsinghua University and China Construction Bank Corporation Limited.  Dr. Gu Binglin, President of Tsinghua, and Mr. Guo Shuqing, Chairman of CCB were present to address the occasion, while the agreement was signed by Dr. Gu and Mr. Zhang Jianguo, CCB Chairman.  Attending the ceremony were also Mr. Han Jinyang, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee at Tsinghua University, Prof. Chen Jining, Vice President of Tsinghua University and Messrs Zhao Lin and Xin Shuxin, both Vice Presidents of CCB.

The Strategic Partnership Agreement was reached on the principle of “long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration and development of two strong partners".  With the common aim of striving for the best, both partners will collaborate on multiple levels.  According to the agreement, in future, Tsinghua will provide CCB with resources which are conducive to the carrying out of various financial activities and will provide intellectual supports to further develop the businesses of CCB.  In return, CCB will provide a comprehensive range of financial services to Tsinghua and its personnel.  To ensure that the partnership will be long-term, stable and effective, both partners will promote continuous communication and exchange in the fields of education, finance and related areas by establishing the necessary mechanism to facilitate annual meetings among high level personnel from both sides.  Furthermore, in an appendix to the Strategic Partnership Agreement, the partners have laid down specific items in which they will cooperate.  Thus, the signing of this Strategic Partnership Agreement signifies that the cooperation between the two parties has arrived at a new stage.

At the time of signing the Agreement, CCB had also provided Tsinghua University with funds to establish the “Tsinghua University-CCB Scholarship & Bursaries” and the “Tsinghua University-CCB Library Foundation”.  The purpose of the former is to reward students of good character and excellent scholarship, as well as to provide supports to needy students.  The purpose of the latter is to give support to the further development of the Tsinghua Library.
