CCB Helps the Police Capture 4 Suspects Attempting to Encash a Faked Bill of Exchange worth RMB 2.5 Million
Published time: 2005-03-09
Recently, Heilongjiang Daxing’anling Branch of China Construction Bank (CCB) successfully intercepted a faked bill of exchange worth RMB 2.5 million and helped the police capture 4 suspects on the spot.
At about 10:00 a.m., January 25, 2005, two men held a bill of exchange worth RMB 2.5 million to the Accounting Department of CCB Daxing’anling Branch to encash it. The name of holder on the bill is Ren Xiaoming, born in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. The department manager and the clerk of the bank looked over the bill and found out that the bill was possibly faked. To relieve the suspicion of the two men, the staff kept back the bill, saying that the bill needed to be inquired if cashed in. Then they smartly obtained the ID No. and the contact phone of the holder. Having communicated with the accounting department of the provincial branch, the local branch confirmed that the bill was faked and reported the case to the upper-level bank. The leaders of upper-level bank attached great importance to the case, took immediate action, and reported the case to the local police.
That day, the holders made many calls to the branch to ask about the cash-in of the bill, and the clerk responded intelligently. In the afternoon, the responsible cashiers contacted Ren Xiaoming, informing him of coming to encash the bill of exchange. However, as time passed by, the holder did not appear at 17:30 p.m. when the bank closed. The local bank and police had emergent discussions on responsive measures and the next step of capture actions. At 10:40 a.m., the next day, 3 suspects showed up. The waiting policemen rushed out just as the suspects were approaching the accounting counter. Ren Xiaoming, who was waiting outside the hall, was also captured by the policemen in front of the office building.
It is known that CCB has been carrying out the prevention efforts in the principle of ‘preventing and investigating at the same time while focusing upon prevention’ to raise the awareness of the employees and enhance their ability to withstand risks.
